Sew Your Own Shirt/Shirt Dress With A Twist

Join Lucy at Just Sew Penrith,  and learn the art of making a beautifully finished shirt.

Featuring all the classic shirt-making details, including a button-front placket, structured collar and sleeve plackets, this is a wonderful opportunity to develop your dressmaking skills and tackle some new techniques.

But this isn't just any shirt! The distinctive yoke construction offers plenty of opportunity to get creative with your fabric choices. Why not experiment with stripes, play with pattern direction or even add a little piping to highlight the seams and give your garment a unique finish? You'll also learn how to use French seams to create beautifully neat, professional-looking internal finishes.

Whether you choose to make the classic shirt or the longer shirt dress, you'll come away with a gorgeous handmade garment and some fantastic new shirt-making skills to take into your future sewing projects.

You do need to have some sewing machine experience for this course and as well as some experience of sewing up some basic dressmaking garments.

What you will need to bring with you

• Fabric 
  • Fabric suggestions: Light to medium weight wove fabrics such as Cotton Lawn, Cotton Shirting, Patchwork Cottons, Flannel, Linen, Viscose Twill
    
  • Fabric quantities will depend on the size you will sew. A full breakdown will be provided on booking. 
• Thread to match your fabric
• Fusible Interfacing
• Up to 18x 12mm buttons   
• Sewing Kit 
• Sewing Machine 
  
  • If preferred, for an additional £15.00 you can hire one of our sewing machines. Please notify us before the workshop if you would like to hire a machine.
